Lead singer of Adelaide indie pop outfit Fingertips, and this year’s Explode! MC, Claire ‘Clarence’ Knight got her start in the music media industry as a community broadcaster. Presenting music programs on Channel 31 and Radio Adelaide allowed this femme MC to cut her teeth interviewing world-renowned artists over the SA airwaves whilst studying a Media degree at the University of Adelaide.

Don’t let the name put you off – this Adelaide 5-piece are a rocktronic timebomb of awesomeness poised to Explode! (Get it?) Their synth-heavy indie grid-rock tunes have been garnering steady national airplay, featuring on triple j’s Home and Hosed and Super Request shows. The band have also shared the stage with Oh Mercy!, Hercules in NY, The Bumblebeez, End of Fashion, Bang Bang Eche, and boys of the moment, Art vs. Science. This A-team of Australian synth-rock slayed at the Adelaide Fringe Opening Night extravaganza on Friday, and are set to tear up the stage at both Explode! and Ignition.

Damian Trotter is one busy music mogul (and king of the acronyms). Not content with simply being the Managing Director of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia, Damian is also a Director of APRA (Australian Performing Rights Association), Director and former Chairperson of AMCOS (Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society Ltd.) and Australian Music Prize (AMP).

Phew! This is a man who clearly eats his Weetbix (note: FUSE does not endorse Weetbix. It’s just a joke).

Damian has worked in the Aussie music industry since 1982, holding key positions in sales, marketing, promotion and A&R before taking up the offer to head the newly established Sony Music Publishing (now Sony/ATV Music Publishing thanks to the addition of the Beatles catalogue) in 1992. In this relatively short space of time, SATV has grown into a music publishing powerhouse both locally and internationally, representing many of the biggest names in the music world including The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Silverchair, Midnight Oil, Leonard Cohen, Beck, Augie March, Gurrumul, Paul Kelly, Don Walker, Jeff Buckley, Pearl Jam, Pete Murray, Delta Goodrem, The Hoodoo Gurus, Bob Evans, Sarah Blasko, Joni Mitchell, Oasis, The Hilltop Hoods, Lisa Gerrard, Ben Lee, Empire of the Sun, Angus and Julia Stone, Roy Orbison, Spiderbait, Lisa Mitchell and Kate Miller-Heidke… to name a few (hundred).

Kingfisha are a 5 piece reggae/dub band from Brisbane. They have taken the Jamaican rhythms and infused them with honest songwriting and strong melodies to create their own sound… Honest, Australian Reggae. They began as a studio project with Anthony Forrest, Andrew Stephens and Shannon Green, following the disbandment of dub/electro act ‘Promiscuous’. In 2008 the live band was formed and they released their debut EP, “Promises”. Having completed several east-coast tours and performing at some of the country’s finest festivals, in only a short time Kingfisha have emerged as one of the strong up-and-comers of the Australian roots music scene. Kingfisha have just returned from their first tour of New Zealand , playing at the ‘Parihaka Peace Festival’, and being a part of the ‘Parihaka Thankyou Tour’ of the north and south island. The first half of 2010 will see them working on the release of their debut album from which they will launch their first single in May.

If ever there was a band for dancing to, it’s Melbourne’s Foxx On Fire. They’re synth-based Dance-Rock with a non-stop party attitude.

Foxx On Fire play the Explode! Showcase in Rymill Park on Wednesday February 24, and Ignition Showcase with Move To Strike and Lyla in Arcade Lane on Thursday February 25.

Promoting gigs since the age of 16, Jon worked his way to Head Promoter of the UK’s Barfly Club, booking acts such as The Cure, Razorlight, and The Libertines. These days, Jon works as P romotions Director, booking tours and festival appearances for the MAMA Group, which includes Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Dido, Crystal Castles, and more. Jon has also developed initiatives with media partners such as MTV and NME and commercial sponsors such as Levis and Red Stripe. In 2006 Jon jointly founded The Great Escape Festival and Convention.

Jon comes to Fuse to share his experience and expertise at the Management Masterclass, as well as speaking on the ‘Touring & Supports’ and ‘International’ panels, and the ‘triple j Listening Panel’.
